A spirit that has quit the clay | D |
And in the times of stress and doubt | C |
Sustains his friend throughout the day | D |

The outward form but disappears | F |
I know that all my friends are nigh | E |
Whenever I am moved to tears | G |
And when my strength and hope are gone | H |
The friends no more that once I knew | I |
Return to cheer and urge me on | J |
Just as they always used to do | I |

They whisper to me in the dark | K |
Kind words of counsel and of cheer | L |
When hope has flickered to a spark | K |
I feel their gentle spirits near | L |
And Oh because of them I strive | M |
With all the strength that I can call | N |
To keep their friendship still alive | M |
