That I had filled a needed post | B |
That here and there I'd paid my fare | C |
With more than idle talk and boast | B |
That I had taken gifts divine | D |
The breath of life and manhood fine | D |
And tried to use them now and then | E |
In service for my fellow men | E |

I'd hate to think when life is through | F |
That I had lived my round of years | G |
A useless kind that leaves behind | H |
No record in this vale of tears | I |
That I had wasted all my days | J |
By treading only selfish ways | J |
And that this world would be the same | K |
If it had never known my name | K |

I'd like to think that here and there | C |
When I am gone there shall remain | L |
A happier spot that might have not | M |
Existed had I toiled for gain | L |
That someone's cheery voice and smile | N |
Shall prove that I had been worth while | N |
That I had paid with something fine | D |
My debt to God for life divine | D |
