Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDDEE FGHIJJKK CLMLNNDD| I'd like to think when life is done | A |
| That I had filled a needed post | B |
| That here and there I'd paid my fare | C |
| With more than idle talk and boast | B |
| That I had taken gifts divine | D |
| The breath of life and manhood fine | D |
| And tried to use them now and then | E |
| In service for my fellow men | E |
| - | |
| I'd hate to think when life is through | F |
| That I had lived my round of years | G |
| A useless kind that leaves behind | H |
| No record in this vale of tears | I |
| That I had wasted all my days | J |
| By treading only selfish ways | J |
| And that this world would be the same | K |
| If it had never known my name | K |
| - | |
| I'd like to think that here and there | C |
| When I am gone there shall remain | L |
| A happier spot that might have not | M |
| Existed had I toiled for gain | L |
| That someone's cheery voice and smile | N |
| Shall prove that I had been worth while | N |
| That I had paid with something fine | D |
| My debt to God for life divine | D |
