As We Prayed Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAABBC DDDEEE AAAFFF

Often as we watched her thereA
From our lips there fell this prayerA
'God give us the pain to bearA
Let us suffer in her placeB
Take the anguish from her faceB
Soothe her with Thy holy grace 'C
-
Then the angels came and theyD
Took her lovely soul awayD
From the torture house of clayD
As we'd prayed they brought releaseE
Smoothed her brow with gentle peaceE
But our pain shall never ceaseE
-
Ours is now the hurt to bearA
Ours the anguish and despairA
Ours the agony to shareA
When our hearts with grief were stirredF
Thus we prayed and thus were heardF
Shall we fail to keep our wordF
