An' hear the grumblers round me say | D |
This world ain't what it ought to be | E |
With so much care an' misery | E |
An' so much work for all to do | F |
An' little comfort when you're through | F |

But all the time I'm thinkin' of | G |
The faces of the ones I love | G |
An' every minute I can see | E |
Their bright eyes laughing right at me | E |
An' I can almost hear 'em say | D |
Come home come home an' we will play ' | - |

Sends bitter thoughts into my mind | H |
An' I get thinkin' that of care | I |
I draw far more than is my share | I |
I hear 'em hum their merry song | J |

I couldn't doubt it if I would | K |
For all the trouble that I meet | L |
I gather compensation sweet | L |
