A Vow Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGDGD HIHIJKJK| I might not ever scale the mountain heights | A |
| Where all the great men stand in glory now | B |
| I may not ever gain the world's delights | A |
| Or win a wreath of laurel for my brow | B |
| I may not gain the victories that men | C |
| Are fighting for nor do a thing to boast of | D |
| I may not get a fortune here but then | C |
| The little that I have I'll make the most of | D |
| - | |
| I'll make my little home a palace fine | E |
| My little patch of green a garden fair | F |
| And I shall know each humble plant and vine | E |
| As rich men know their orchid blossoms rare | F |
| My little home may not be much to see | G |
| Its chimneys may not tower far above | D |
| But it will be a mansion great to me | G |
| For in its walls I'll keep a hoard of love | D |
| - | |
| I will not pass my modest pleasures by | H |
| To grasp at shadows of more splendid things | I |
| Disdaining what of joyousness is nigh | H |
| Because I am denied the joy of kings | I |
| But I will laugh and sing my way along | J |
| I'll make the most of what is mine to day | K |
| And if I never rise above the throng | J |
| I shall have lived a full life anyway | K |
