I'd like to be the sort of manA
the flag could boast aboutB
I'd like to be the sort of manA
it cannot live withoutB
I'd like to be the type of manA
That really is AmericanC
The head erect and shoulders squareD
Clean minded fellow just and fairD
That all men picture when they seeE
The glorious banner of the freeE
-
I'd like to be the sort of manA
the flag now typifiesF
The kind of man we really wantG
the flag to symbolizeF
The loyal brother to a trustH
The big unselfish soul and justH
The friend of every man oppressedI
The strong support of all that's bestI
The sturdy chap the banner's meantJ
Where'er it flies to representJ
-
I'd like to be the sort of manA
the flag's supposed to meanK
The man that all in fancy seeE
wherever it is seenK
The chap that's ready for a fightL
Whenever there's a wrong to rightL
The friend in every time of needM
The doer of the daring deedM
The clean and generous handed manA
That is a real AmericanC
