| Heard something 'woofing' down that way | H |
| An' they was scared an' stood stock still | I |
| An' wished they had a gun to kill | I |

| Don't have no guns that make a noise | J |

| An' soon the 'woofing' closer grew | K |
| An' then a bear came into view | K |
| The biggest bear you ever saw | L |
| Ma's muff was smaller than his paw | L |
| He saw the children an' he said | C |
| 'I ain't a goin' to kill you dead | C |
| You needn't turn away an' run | M |
| I'm only scarin' you for fun ' | - |

| An' then he stood up just like those | N |
| Big bears in circuses an' shows | N |
| An' danced a jig an' rolled about | O |
| An' said 'Woof Woof ' which meant 'Look out ' | - |
| An' turned a somersault as slick | P |
| As any boy can do the trick | P |
| Those children had been told of Jim | A |
| An' they decided it was him | A |

| They stroked his nose when they got brave | Q |
| An' followed him into his cave | Q |
| An' Jim asked them if they liked honey | B |
| They said they did Said Jim 'That's funny | B |
| I've asked a thousand boys or so | R |
| That question an' not one's said no ' | - |

| 'Cause next I knew 'twas light as day | H |
