skeered of himA
An' he lived in a cave where heB
Was confortubbul as could beB
An' in that cave so my Pa saidC
Jim always kept a stock of breadC
An' honey so that he could treatD
The boys an' girls along his streetD
-
An' all that Jim could say was 'Woof '-
An' give a grunt that went like 'Soof '-
An' Pa says when his grunt went offE
It sounded jus' like Grandpa's coughF
Or like our Jerry when he's madG
An' growls at peddler men that's badG
While grown ups were afraid of JimA
Kids could do anything with himA
-
One day a little boy like meB
That had a sister MarjorieB
Was walking through the woods an' theyH
Heard something 'woofing' down that wayH
An' they was scared an' stood stock stillI
An' wished they had a gun to killI
Whatever 'twas but little boysJ
Don't have no guns that make a noiseJ
-
An' soon the 'woofing' closer grewK
An' then a bear came into viewK
The biggest bear you ever sawL
Ma's muff was smaller than his pawL
He saw the children an' he saidC
'I ain't a goin' to kill you deadC
You needn't turn away an' runM
I'm only scarin' you for fun '-
-
An' then he stood up just like thoseN
Big bears in circuses an' showsN
An' danced a jig an' rolled aboutO
An' said 'Woof Woof ' which meant 'Look out '-
An' turned a somersault as slickP
As any boy can do the trickP
Those children had been told of JimA
An' they decided it was himA
-
They stroked his nose when they got braveQ
An' followed him into his caveQ
An' Jim asked them if they liked honeyB
They said they did Said Jim 'That's funnyB
I've asked a thousand boys or soR
That question an' not one's said no '-
What happened then I cannot sayH
'Cause next I knew 'twas light as dayH
