Clara Smith Books, Clara Smith poetry book Religion and Culture Authors: Bernard J. F. Lonergan, International Lonergan Symposium on Religion and Culture (1984 : University of Santa Clara)
Publisher: SUNY Press
Published Date: 1987-01-01
Categories: Religion
While the framework of this book is Lonergan, the essays stand as original and constructive works in a number of fields and topics. The theme of the relation of religion to culture is addressed from four orientations: philosophy, theology, human science, and economics. The contributors include Stephen Toulmin, Frederick Crowe, S.J., Sebastian Moore, Walter Conn, and William Johnston, S.J. Topics covered include process thought, historical-mindedness, mysticism, religious truth and language, nuclear war, and economic transformation. Lonergan's monumental Insight (1957) and Method in Theology (1972) are substantial and powerful. The key to these and other works is method. Lonergan's thought rests on the subject's intelligent and responsible self-appropriation, grounded in creative and cooperative work from diverse disciplines. This volume demonstrates the richness and importance of the methodical collaboration called for by one of our century's greatest minds.

Clara Smith Books, Clara Smith poetry book Voices in the poetic tradition Authors: Clara Ann Thompson, J. Pauline Smith, Mazie Earhart Clark
Publisher: G K Hall
Published Date: 1996-12
Categories: Literary Criticism
Originally published in Detroit and Cincinnati between 1922 and 1932, the three collections presented in this volume form a bridge between an earlier poetic tradition and the poetry of the Harlem Renaissance. Poets Clara Ann Thompson (A Garland of Poems), J. Pauline Smith ("Exceeding Riches" and Other Verse), and Mazie Earhart Clark (Garden of Memories) treat such early-twentieth-century issues as world war, economic depression, club women, church work, and racial uplift.

Clara Smith Books, Clara Smith poetry book The Ladies, the Gwich'in, and the Rat Authors: Clara Vyvyan
Publisher: University of Alberta
Published Date: 1998-05
Categories: Biography & Autobiography
In 1926, Clara Coltman Rogers and Gwendolen Dorrien Smith paddled alone down the Porcupine River west of the continental divide toward the Gwitchin community at Old Crow, Yukon Territory. In 1961, Clara, now Lady Vyvyan, published Arctic Adventure, the story of their trip. She records their encounters with mounties, Inuit, Dene, traders, trappers, and missionaries as the women travel over the Divide in search of the Klondike gold rush and the North of Robert Service. This edition adds fifty-nine black-and-white photographs of the early North, plus colour reproductions of twelve watercolour sketches Gwendolen Dorrien Smith made as the women travelled. Their field diaries and their many letters home sometimes suggest that the women knew they carried with them the norms of the British Empire. These writings offer a new understanding of women's early efforts to shape a voice and sensibility by which to record and inscribe the northern wilderness.

Wilfrid Scawen Blunt Poem
A Woman-s Sonnets: Ii
 by Wilfrid Scawen Blunt

Nay, dear one, ask me not to leave thee yet.
Let me a little longer hold thy hand.
Too soon it is to bid me to forget
The joys I was so late to understand.
The future holds but a blank face for me,
The past is all confused with tears and grey,
But the sweet present, while thy smiles I see,
Is perfect sunlight, an unclouded day.
