In Memory Of My Dear Grandchild Anne Bradstreet, Who Deceased June 20, 1699, Being Three Years And S Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDEEFFGHIIJJKKWith troubled heart and trembling hand I write | A |
The heavens have changed to sorrow my delight | A |
How oft with dissappointment have I met | B |
When I on fading things my hopes have set | B |
Experience might 'fore this have made me wise | C |
To value things according to their price | D |
Was ever stable joy yet found below | E |
Or perfect bliss without mixture of woe | E |
I knew she was but as a withering flower | F |
That's here today perhaps gone in an hour | F |
Like as a bubble or the brittle glass | G |
Or like a shadow turning as it was | H |
More fool then I to look on that was lent | I |
As if mine own when thus impermanent | I |
Farewell dear child thou ne'er shalt come to me | J |
But yet a while and I shall go to thee | J |
Meantime my throbbing heart's cheered up with this | K |
Thou with thy Savior art in endless bliss | K |
