Black veiled black gowned she rides in bus and trainB
With eyes that fill too listlessly for tearsC
Her waxen hands clasp and unclasp againD
Good News they cry She neither sees nor hearsE
-
Good News perhaps may crown some far off kingF
Good News may peal the glory of the stateG
Good News may cause the courts of heaven to ringF
She sees a hand waved at a garden gateG
-
For her dull ears are tuned to other themesH
And her dim eyes can never see arightG
She glides a ghost through all her April dreamsH
To meet his eyes at dawn his lips at nightG
-
Wraiths of a truth that others never knewI
And yet for her the only truth that's trueI

Good News Good News There is no way but thisJ
Out of the night a star begins to riseK
I know not where my soul's deep Master isL
Nor can I hear those angels in the skiesK
-
Nor follow him as childhood used of oldG
By radiant seas in those time hallowed talesM
Only at times implacable and coldG
From this blind gloom stand out the iron nailsM
-
Yet at this world's heart stands the Eternal CrossN
The ultimate frame of moon and star and sunO
Where Love with out stretched arms in utter lossN
Points East and West and makes the whole world oneO
-
Good News Good News There is no hope no wayP
No truth no life but leads through Christmas DayP
