The Double Fortress Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GG

Time wouldst thou hurt us Never shall we grow oldA
Break as thou wilt these bodies of blind clayB
Thou canst not touch us here in our strongholdA
Where two made one laugh all thy powers awayB
-
-
Though ramparts crumble and rusty gates grow thinC
And our brave fortress dwine to a hollow shellD
Thou shalt hear heavenly laughter far withinC
Where young as Love two hidden lovers dwellD
-
-
We shall go clambering up our twisted stairsE
To watch the moon through rifts in our grey towersF
Thou shalt hear whispers kisses and sweet prayersE
Creeping through all our creviced walls like flowersF
-
-
Wouldst wreck us Time When thy dull leaguer bringsG
The last wall down look heavenward We have wingsG
