Unapologetic Light

Vanessa Dizon Alvarez

I will not dim my morning sun
to soothe another’s night.
My peace is not a borrowed flame,
nor theirs to reignite.

I’ll choose the path that heals my soul,
though others call it wrong.
Their comfort is not my burden—
my heart must stay strong.

For joy is mine to tend and keep,
a garden of my own.
And those who’d wilt my blossoms
should never call it home.

So let them rage, let silence fall—
I’ll rise, serene, and free.
For happiness begins within,
and ends where I decree
