Knife Turned Freedom

Vanessa Dizon Alvarez

That knife you drove into my back,
A silver truth on a shadowed track.
It cut me deep, it made me bleed,
Yet carved the strength I came to need.

The blade that sought to make me fall,
Became the key to break it all.
It sliced the chains, it split the ties,
It freed my soul, it cleared my skies.

Your treachery sharpened, cruel and sly,
But I rose stronger, I learned to fly.
The scar you left became my song,
A hymn of power, fierce and strong.

You thought the wound would end my fight,
But I found fire within the night.
The knife you gave, a gift disguised,
It cut away your web of lies.

So thank the hand that sought to harm,
It armed me with a brighter charm.
The steel you pressed became my key,
Unlocking the life you’ll never see.
