Bleeding Next To Sharks

Vanessa Dizon Alvarez

My mentor spoke with eyes so stark,
“Guard your heart from those who mark.
For showing wounds to ruthless eyes,
Is bleeding where the danger lies.”

They smile, they nod, they seem to care,
But scent your pain upon the air.
And once they taste the fear you show,
They circle close — you’ll never know.

So hide your ache, let silence mend,
Not every soul deserves your end.
For sharks will feed where hearts are bare,
Protect your peace — be wise, beware.
