Forfeiture

Murithi Ikiara

Were you a rose
I’d pick your scent
And eye tips of your blouse
And mine heart be content

Were you clouds
I’d acquiesce to the clear blue sky
And see this beauty swallowed in crowds
And be your guy

Were you a river
In a silent forest
I’d softly whisper
Breathtaking words and make mine heart blest

But now you are wind
Blowing from the fours
This love, today I prescind
And forfeit a would-be YOURS
