Alice Lakwena

From the edge of Acet
Lakwena's rebels hatched
With powerful tactics and—
Rituals. . .
Alice's battle instructions
Of pre-frontal preparations
To smear oneself with
a concoction
(a mixture
Of smoked chameleons, lizards,
Snake and tadpoles, dried
And ground into powder
and shear butter)
Courage, her soldiers canted
Though she would stiffly
Warn with an elephant roar
'Mound never your wife,
Eat never shear butter
During this fury, and
Never shall you retreat
Or doubt my power
For if one midst you does so,
His or her ears shall spell
The profit of disobedience.
