River Stone

It beats upon me, and it hits against me.
What have I done, why am I here?
I have forever been here from birth.
From the earth.

A fate which I cannot escape, bound to this state.
At times the pain feels cool, cold, warm, and hot.
Changes throughout the day, the seasons, as nature desires.
It smoothens me like a precious pearl.

Pain which transforms in the flow which conforms
Conforms to the path of the stream with its current.
The current always fluctuates.
But despite its fluctuation, I must maintain my station.

I stand among many in this stream.
Yet I am alone.
The flow beats us all be we stay strong.
Being a stone in this river isn’t easy at all.

Poet's note: This poem shows how life beats down on us like the flow of a river. But we can be resolute in the midst of the pain like the river stone.
