In Time, I Will
You were lying in bed on the ward.
We spoke on the phone after visiting hours.
And we texted each other in the night.
I wanted you to brighten up my heart
And place a rainbow in my grey sky.
You sincerely said, “In time, I will.”
I honestly didn’t expect you to say this,
But your response comforted me.
And I waited for you to keep your word.
Even though you meant the things you said,
You were unable to fulfil your desires.
Perhaps you weren’t thinking straight.
You made a promise that you couldn’t keep,
But that didn’t stop me from loving you.
I still think about the promise you made.
