Independence Greed-dom.

With a spirit and zeal of sovereignty
Awolowo, Azikiwe and Bello with many others championed the journey
With a determined tete-a-tete, we became a nation snatched from the jaws of the mighty
Decades upon decades, the rightful structure laid was pulled down with a sole rulership interest of money, money and money.

We once had leaders
Now we have rulers
How sweet and glorious would have been our freedom
Now a sorry case as the kingdom is now drenched in greed-dom.

Wa-Zo-Bia with diverse tribes all together became one
Despite our numerous national make-up artists, rather than being sweet sixteen, we are at sixty sadly worn
Overhauling, Restructuring till when shall we wait?
Sadly sweet we suffer and smile while our rulers without foresight keeps gobbling the foreign nation's baits.

We were once positively mighty
Now we are most often flighty
How sweet and glorious would have been our freedom
Now a sorry case as the kingdom is now drenched in greed-dom.

With a comforting and prayerful poetic heart I write;
Oh God of creation, I beseech you to direct our noble cause
Guide our leaders that have turned to rulers right and most passionately help our youths the truth to know
For us all; in love and honesty to grow and living just and true
Oh! Almighty God, help us attain a great lofty height
With genuine freedom devoid of greed-dom to build a nation where justice shall reign.
