To Gabriel, My Son

I write
For you
With my blood
Telling you
The secrets
Deep in my soul
Embedded
In my very being;

I
Write
For you
With my breath
Giving out
My very existence
Sweating blood
And salty sweat
And tears
Trying
To give you
The wisdom
I've garnered
Over the years;

I
Write
To you
The testament
Of a man
Whose life, as yours
Increases, decreases
Daily leaving you
A legacy
To build on
When I'm gone.

Poet's note: As the title implies, I wrote to my son whose name is Gabriel. He's 14 years old and senior secondary school. We are not together and spend short periods together. There are a lot he should learn from me but there's no time. The poem is written as an encouragement to him.
