Dirge I

To Sis. Gladys Ogbonnie
Bad news, they say travels fast
But news of your passing
Never came so fast
Never heard until in passing
A call came from one
Who assumed I'd known;

You were a big sister to us
When we were growing up
And twas always fun for us
To remember those wonderful days we felt on top
Of the world as children
Who never knew the world then
Now you're no more
Fare thee well, we won't see anymore!

Poet's note: On Sunday November 22, 2020 I received the news of the death of my cousin to whom this poem and two others are dedicated. The poem recalls the time we spent as family when we were growing up with her as a big sister, and bid's her farewell.
