Crying Wolf

"Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer
Things fall apart the centre cannot hold
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world..."

We've not heard
The last of it
For each day the drama
Keeps unfolding, enlarging;

The strong man keeps talking
Keeps threatening, barking
Like a rabid dog caught in a killing trap
Ready to bite anyone that dares come close;

The hunter's become the quarry
Hunted by the very memories
Of his ignominious past, afraid the traps
He'd set for others may catch him as he beats about the bush;

The actors suddenly have become spectators
Throwing away the scripts they'd crafted
For the melodrama they'd longed to stage
The protagonist having missed his cue...
Things have fallen apart
And the centre cannot hold together again.

Poet's note: In the spirit of the "Season of Madness" the poet observes the attitude and utterances of the decampee Governor and thinks he is crying wolf where there's none. He is the one with the structure and apparatus to inflict terror on his opponents, yet he is the one conplaing of being atop threatened.
