School Children

On many nights
When I from a tedious day
Escaped
With eyes blurred
And body bent on sleep

My stolid body to this slum
Propel
Whilst my feet hath many greeting known
Carbon combustion clap me welcome
With sounds like caterpillar raid–
My sleep from me fled

On days when the sun is high
And my eyes too week in the sun
To my baking hut my mind to mine
There! Comes the school children
Dismissed on a sudden recess–

On grounds their feeble brain
Could scarce retain
Their songs like a military parade–
Ravaging the resources from within

Thus am I daily plagued
And I have been the grass
Suffering the cold blooded war
Within
Yes the goat that eats the grass
But must go a sour teeth for the DOGS

Awoke Godswill
