A Prayer For You To Smile

Okelola Kamaldeen Olakunle

A PRAYER FOR YOU TO SMILE
I pray for you to smile, my friend
to dream Quran in the night
In the sight of the Almighty
As the blessed soul of a servant
Who do not cease to chant
The glory of her Lord over her life
Wake up and see the light
Like the blossom view of a lotus flower
Outside your window, and feel
The current of Allah's love
Turning in you like a water wheel
Gazing at you, bright on a summer day
Like the sun on the sea
An ardent delight from your Lord
Because when you smile, I am placid
And so a prayer for you to smile.
When it's winter in your mind
My heart chilled and rimed
While my arms yearn to warm you
When your back is bent and sore
I sense it from distant shores
Like hurricane on a summer day
When you dawn yourself
I have faith in you like a sunrise
To brighten up the day
After a long period of winter
Leaving me scoured, pure
Blinking like a child.
When your eyes well up with tears
Mine too are hot as black tea
So a prayer for you to smile
I pray for your chest to rise
With flowered air, your spirit rich
I pray for you to laugh, leafy and long
Your body whole and strong
Like the last bison on a grazing land
Sweet as a summer wind
And your spirit shy but filling in
Raising your head, hand
Saying what must be said
I ask Allah all of this for you
Because I love you, I love you, you see
A prayer for you to smile
