Pretty, Dainty Flowers

Marlon Pitter

Has anyone seen a wandering girl in town?
She is a beautiful dancer I used to know.
My baby said she would never leave me,
But she broke every promise that she made.

I am speaking about an Indonesian girl.
She likes to wear pretty, dainty flowers in her hair.
I have been pining for love since she left me.
Will somebody help me to find her?

If you see her, remind her of the one who is hurting.
Ask her about the man she left behind.
Please tell her that I am anticipating her safe return.
And tell her that I love her all the same.

If my darling knew how much I miss her,
She would come back and make me jolly.
If she knew how long I shall wait for her,
She would come back and turn my gray sky into blue.

From my heart I truly regret my mistakes.
If I could take back the foolish things I said and did,
I swear I would do it right away.
Never again will I be selfish, neither will I be vain.

Will she ever forgive my childish ways?
Will she even consider starting over?
I wish I knew what she is doing now.
Most of all I wish I knew where she is.

In time, she may recall the pretty, dainty flowers,
The ones in the lush flower garden.
She will return and pick fresh roses for her hair,
And she will not wander off again.

Why did I treat my baby so inconsiderately?
I was wrong, and I admit my faults.
My jealous heart could not see her innocence.
She had always been faithful to me.
