A Disturbing Dream

Marlon Pitter

(You won’t believe that this is really a dream)

I was walking on a long road with my wife.
She had on a red dress.
The streetlights were far apart,
So the road was mostly dark.
The night was cold because it had rained earlier.
We felt a little drizzle.
Puddles of water were on the road.

She stopped suddenly near an intersection.
I was wondering why she stopped.
She saw something on the other side of the road,
And she was gazing at it in astonishment.
I didn’t see anything unusual.
Something was drawing her attention.
I didn’t know what it was.

She went across the road and headed for the corner.
I asked her where she was going,
But she didn’t answer me.
She seemed to have lost cognisance of things around her.
I continued walking down the road,
For I thought she would soon follow me.

I looked back a few times to see if she was coming,
But she didn’t appear.
I stopped and waited for her,
But she didn’t come.
I walked back up the road to see what happened to her.
When I got to the corner, she wasn’t there.
She was nowhere to be found.

I was so worried about my wife.
Knowing her, she would be unlikely to leave without me.
I slowly walked down the road that she took.
It appeared to be a dead end.
Two girls were standing at the corner.
I looked in the homes on both sides of the road,
But I saw no trace of my wife.

Strangely, I said nothing to the girls.
I didn’t ask them if they saw a woman in a red dress pass by.
I was so confused, I couldn’t think straight.
Furthermore, I didn’t expect a supernatural occurrence.
Although the whole thing seemed a bit strange,
I thought I’d find her and everything would be okay.

I crossed a low bridge near the end of the cul-de-sac,
And I went into the front of an open yard.
Sadly, my wife wasn’t there.
I didn’t say anything to anybody,
For I thought they would think I was crazy.
I looked around for a while, and then I left.

Something didn’t make sense.
She couldn’t have gone home by herself.
The only way out was to pass me.
I went home with a little feeling of hope.
When I got home, she wasn’t there.
I didn’t know what to think.
How could it be possible?

I went back where the event occurred to try to find her,
But my search for her was in vain.
My wife disappeared mysteriously,
And I never saw her again.
It seemed that she was abducted by a supernatural entity.
I was overcome with intense grief and fear.
How I regretted that I didn’t go across the road with her.

The loss of my wife was so unbearable,
And I wanted to know where she was.
I asked God to show me what happened to her.
Perhaps knowing it would ease the pain.
God didn’t reveal anything to me.
I woke up and saw my wife lying beside me in bed,
And I told her about the disturbing dream I had.
The dream disturbed me for many days.
