They Called Me To The Window, For

Emily Dickinson

628

They called me to the Window, for
” 'Twas Sunset”-Some one said-
I only saw a Sapphire Farm-
And just a Single Herd-

Of Opal Cattle-feeding far
Upon so vain a Hill-
As even while I looked-dissolved-
Nor Cattle were-nor Soil-

But in their stead-a Sea-displayed-
And Ships-of such a size
As Crew of Mountains-could afford-
And Decks-to seat the skies-

This-too-the Showman rubbed away-
And when I looked again-
Nor Farm-nor Opal Herd-was there-
Nor Mediterranean-
