As Far From Pity, As Complaint

Emily Dickinson

496

As far from pity, as complaint-
As cool to speech-as stone-
As numb to Revelation
As if my Trade were Bone-

As far from time-as History-
As near yourself-Today-
As Children, to the Rainbow's scarf-
Or Sunset's Yellow play

To eyelids in the Sepulchre-
How dumb the Dancer lies-
While Color's Revelations break-
And blaze-the Butterflies!
