To solve life's secrets learn what means this death | E |
Are fresh joys waiting for the silent dead | D |
Or do we perish with am fleeting breath | E |
If not then whither will the spirit go | C |

'Tis all a mist Reason can naught explain | F |
We dream and scheme for what to morrow brings | G |
We sleep perchance and never wake again | H |
Nor taste life's joys or suffer sorrow's stings | G |
Will the soul soar or will it sink below | C |
How can we know | C |

Pin faith on what he cannot comprehend | J |
We grope for light but all in vain we seek | I |
Oblivion seems poor mortal's truest friend | J |
Like bats at noonday blindly on we go | C |
For naught we know | C |

Yet why should we repine Could we but see | K |
Our lifelong journey with its ups and downs | L |
Ambition hope and longings all would flee | K |
Indifferent alike to smiles and frowns | L |
'Tis better as it is It must be so | C |
