The First But Not Last

The air smelt of eucalyptus, strong and warm.
It reminded her of a book she had read as a kid, about a mountaintop where Atlas held up the earth,
The gardens on this mountains smelling like eucalyptus.

His mouth tasted like that too,
And when hr shared that with her,
She felt on top of the world.

But she couldn't tell anyone that not even him,
Because they weren't together, they just kissed a few times,
Sometimes more,
And she told a few people that.

He was the first person she ever memorized.
His smile, his laugh, his voice.
But she didn't want him to be the last.

And just like the smell of eucalyptus in the air, he slowly faded away.
Now monopolized by a new smell.

Poet's note: This is about the first guy I thought I fell on love in high school, we were so magnetic and would spend all out time together. And he was my first kiss but as our relationship went on I grew distant, I didn't want him to take away all my first times, and I realised I didn't love him I just thought I did because everything was so new. But I still won't take back anything with him.
