No Greater Love
My motherland was pleading again for mercy,
the British were cruel and bloodthirsty,
they ordered to choose the road of compliance,
I selected the path of painful defiance.
Exorbitant charges ruined the peasants,
prayers were made to the heavens,
a call in me to stand for the right,
I started a movement with all my might.
The state of my brothers was just terrible,
discrimination caused was unbearable,
I was commanded to bow my head,
but I chose to get beheaded instead.
Today my nation is adorned with victory,
my story has become a part of its history,
I wonder from above what would have happened,
if the road I had chosen I had abandoned.
