Free

Let me be the wind,
Tethered just to life.
Let me untamed,
That I may only thrive.
Rushing with manic swirls,
Breezing with meek feels,
And roaring here and there.
Let me be the wind,
Sure only to this sphere.
Biding invincible and dauntless,
Inarguably without cares,
Thrusting with penache,
And whelming even the seas.
If, and only if, I be the wind
It will be much lighter
Being life's freest slave.

Poet's note: What inspired the poem was an old argument on one being truly free. The concept of absolute freedom is an illusion but one can't help but desire freedom even though it can't be fully satisfied. "Freedom from what" One might wonder, well, freedom from the cares of life, higher authority, societal conditions, and many other things that constraints a person. There are things that are freer than others and the wind is one of those things with superior level of freedom. So if one could be that free then it's a win.
