Valkyrie

She shed the burden of a troubled past, her weary soul not yet at rest, found Valhalla, home of the blessed.

The Valkyries, sisters of the air,
Greeted her with a knowing, steady stare.
The battlefields of Valhalla, now her sight.
She mounted steed, a creature of light.

She led the charge, in the endless fight.
With sword and shield, and glorious voice.
She sang her song of victorious flight.

Poet's note: The story revolves around a new warrior joining the Valkyries, taking part in the eternal battle of Valhalla. It was written for a talk a friend is giving on norse mythology. I wanted to express the feelings of a new warrior joining the Valkyries after a long and violent life. For me it means transformation and rebirth.
