Obsession
Looking over my shoulder, I could have
sworn there were shadows chasing me
around that last block.
I stepped quickly without hesitation;
sensing alien heels as they clamored
the hot pavement, nervously realizing I
had to elude this curious stranger before
he obsessively thickened the plot.
I ran past shop windows, and crowds
enjoying the mid-day Sun; yet none saw
that look of infinite horror on my face
or the nervous twitch in my eye, as I
fled same unknown force at a crazed
full speed run.
I told myself to remain calm; I must
not show fear, yet how am I supposed to
keep my senses about me when those
echoing footsteps are so damn near!
I quickly ducked in an alley to catch my
breath and wipe my sweating brow, yet
this was no time to rest at ease; I must
continue to flee and now.
Leaping to action, I stumbled and could
not move, suddenly realizing not feeling
too well. Still, I sighed and submitted,
said a prayer, then screamed, "come and
get me you Demon from Hell!
All I could do was wait for the end, as
his keen senses honed, yet when I opened
my eyes, I shook with surprise, for
before me stood a dog I had fed
earlier that day, wagging it's tail,
trying to follow me home.
