Broken Rainbow

it takes gut to break you rainbow
come sit with me. tell me your history:

when God made rain to dance;
made sun to sing;
& you manned the opera -
on Noah's deck and dove's call;

when nature stood still
& mankind breathed relief.

& I tell my story too. rooted
in heat of sun-baked earth -

that I bought my money with my money
& I voted lion but hyena stole the lump.

will my daughter in Rome weep
for me or her country?

fate of her future in hostility,
her generation in disability
for a few corn more!

I run from Sokoto to Jericho,
Japa to Japan,
till Naija runs dry.
