It Became Our Story

Like a fable that never left the table were the
Words of the prophet
Swiftly, slowly, it became our story.

That night, hope betrayed us
Love stole our smile and smeared us with the balm of grief
Shame became our sole companion
We trudged along the wilderness of oblivion,
Into the gloom of dawn.

With severed tongue, we sang the song of pain
And danced the beat of fear
This story, our story became etched in our minds
With faint hands, we will hone the sword of truth
Upon the gravestone of history
Beyond the sands of time.
