The Watcher

A full moon shines down
And illumines the place
An owl makes a kill
Without leaving a trace,
A hare makes a bolt
At a break-neck pace
Whilst I just watch in silence.
A dog fox calls by
Just seeking to eat
Padding the ground
With sturdy forefeet,
And as dark clouds gather
Finds well prepared meat
Whilst I just watch in silence.
Then a vixen appears
As the clouds break to rain
She feeds to kill hunger
Thus easing her pain,
That nothing is left
Not a crumb nor a stain
Whilst I just watch in silence.

Poet's note: This written on 20. 4. 1994. It is about when I used to nature watch from my shed at the bottom of the garden which over looked the fields at the back of our house.
