Rest Day

Now that Juliet is quarantined,
And cannot walk out of the gate,
Romeo must rest
From his amatory toils,
For even the wedding is in limbo.

Now that pubs are closed
And cannot be greeted by habitues,
Good-time Charlie must rest
From his festal toils
For even the party is called off.

Now that cathedrals are shut,
And the hallelujah choruses faint,
The Pope must rest
From his oblatory toils
For even Easter is suspended.

Now that man is sedentary
And his nuisance abated,
Mother Earth now rests
From her toxic toils
For even the emissions are paused.
