Love Unveiled

If love had a face,
And would not wear a veil,
We'd see the stingrays
Behind the smiling face;
That face of deceit veiled.

If love had a face,
And would not wear a veil,
The lover-to-be would not be dazed
By any face of disgrace
Adorned in the cloak of grace.

If love had a face,
And would not wear a veil,
We'll put all heart-eggs in one tray,
And not grope in darkness all day
For a face that would betray.

If love had a face,
And would not wear a veil,
Hearts will leap for joy at the sight of that face,
And fall into a warm embrace
With the face of love that is without veil.
