Alien Invasion

At each breaking dawn,
We awake to duty's call,
Foraging every flourescent tree,
To pick grist to the mill.

Humming and buzzing,
Till our treasure is set in combs.
The Queen we serve,
The brood we nurse.

The nest we guard
In a martial style
Till the intruder is expelled
With a potent sting.

Oh!
Something bigger than the bee,
Has entered the beehive now,
And put the colony asunder.

Alas!
The eusocial creatures
Are turned into impotent loners
At the mercy of the enemy.
