Why Can't They Understand?

They never understand
Why I don't want a man
or a woman too
When I say no they ask
"Is it just my face?"
It's hard to be an ace

Not all are like me
Some do like people, see
They are also true
But I am an ace
And aromantic too

They wonder at my craze
They back from my gaze
They say it's just a phase
It's hard to be an ace

Poet's note: This poem expresses my frustration with the world about their lack of understanding about my sexuality: asexual. Although since writing this poem I have discovered that I am in fact biromantic (something which I have yet to tell the world), I still am asexual and the poem still holds true. It's not just a phase, I'm not simply a "late bloomer," it's just who I am.
