A Scar Within

They say let go of the hurt
But how can I deny what was
And stop being cautious
Maybe I mean so much to you
Maybe the words you say are true
Still, I can’t keep the pain out of view

Not once, not twice
I had to open my eyes
My senses have evolved to tell lies
Both ways
I can’t trust the way I feel again
Or the judgement I make

Goodbye, comes so easily
And faster the tears dry
But this hurt is my own cage
It protects and breaks at the same time
I’ve forgotten how it is to love
No alarms, no caution
No struggle, easily
To find how to love simply

Poet's note: Sometimes we get hurt so much, it becomes a culture, meanwhile, we loose the ability to feel that innocence of just being in love. This poem speaks of a character that has been hurt so much and has lost the ability to dive childishly into love and just be in love.
