The Best Race Hasn't Been Run

Don't let down your guts when you feel beaten
For the best race hasn't been run.
The best book hasn't been written,
The best work hasn't been done.

The tallest cliff hasn't been climbed yet,
The cutest baby is yet to be born.
The fearsome storm hasn't been seen yet,
The best work hasn't been done.

The best verse hasn't been rhymed yet,
The best song hasn't been sung.
The longest mile hasn't been run yet;
Cheer up my son the world is young.

Cheer up my son so long as you live
Your score may be the best we have.
