A Chorus On Shame
Feelings beguile so adults say
That youngsters feel what makes them slay
But feelings 'guile that lead astray
Should take me too — Come what may.
Opinions tell what most misleads
And kills imagination dead.
Opinions kill that plague the earth
Should take me too — I long for death.
Smiles too deceive, this bid be told:
That all that glitters is not gold.
Smiles that deceive and bring to shame
Should take me too — I shout my name!
I sing the rhymes of ecstasy,
I speak of shame by poetry.
I sing my own chorus of shame:
That for my death I'll be to blame.
