40 And 1 More Year
My Brown eyes, optic peepers wide,
Eagle eye take in the view, this birthday slide.
Size up the year, look away with pride,
Yet in the quiet, my heart did yearn.
For lack and dearth can’t touch what I discern:
A covert wish I hold inside,
To like, enjoy, prefer, and never hide
The fire for which I yearn.
Covert wish I hold what I could be wishing for,
Anything —
Yet still these eyes find light to bring.
Ke Amogela golo — I receive this year with joy,
Ke lebelela pele — I look ahead, no more decoy,
Happy eyes still choosing me
