Poet's note: This poem was written on 09/09/2025 The poem tells the story of an old man named Kanta. When we first meet him, he is living a miserable life. He has only one hand, suffers from a damaged liver, is constantly sick, and lives alone in an abandoned house. He has no wife, no children, no money, and no visitors. To survive, he sells firewood despite his poor health. His constant coughing and smoking show that his body has been badly damaged. As the poem develops, we learn that Kanta was not born into suffering. He was born like every other child and had the same opportunities as his peers. However, during his youth, he chose a destructive path. He became a thief, a drunkard, and a drug addict. He pursued pleasure, easy money, and popularity rather than discipline and responsibility. For a while, Kanta enjoyed fame and attention. People knew him, feared him, and celebrated him. He seemed successful and powerful. However, this success was built on a weak foundation. Like a balloon that appears beautiful but can burst at any moment, Kanta's glory eventually collapsed. The "sound of break" in the poem represents the moment when his life fell apart. In old age, Kanta is left with nothing but pain and regret. He watches people who chose the right path enjoy success and fulfillment while he suffers from the consequences of his choices.
