Hope In The Midst Of Despair

Michael McGuire

Soon twilight will fade, as night
caresses it's sleeping babes; down till
morn...when midnight's locks once again
are shorn.

And the Sun beams out...madness
ensues over the Earth, men
kill for cash, countries war, and God
looks out over the Great Tragedy and
sighs at the whole bore!

Temptation, no longer a test, but a
by-passing of faith; lesser time spent
going awry, we arrive in Hell long
before we die.

Satan's news stand barkers mock and cry, "executive
shoots wife...kids...himself...page five!"

We laugh at our fear, defending it
with, "desensitivity, nothing bothers
me anymore"; as we leave our friends
with a cruel joke and cower down in the
aisle at the local beer store.

Hope to drown your pain, yet acts as fuel on
the flame; so you rage out into the night and blaze
tomorrow's headlines with an early grave!

I am quite certain we haven't long to
go; had a dream last night to warn my
soul. I feel I'm not prepared, going
the wrong way in this time of despair.

Yet I hope my true acts will shine, as my
Life is read line by line, and I get to
walk through the gates of Glory, and
everything will be...just Fine.
