If We Could Use It

Gilbert Sordebabari

This morning I met the sun, soft and friendly,
Accept it, embrace it, 'cause it's necessary.
Later, curious turns a little hot, amidst fury,
Remember, the moon—a little fake but sings songs of harmony.

We claim to know the whispers of the breeze,
Yet storms arise, shattering our peace.
Lessons linger in the echoes of trees,
But do we hear, or just believe with ease?

We see the river, calm on the surface,
Forgetting its depths hold stories, so earnest.
Mountains stand, old and wise, yet stern,
Yet we only climb, not caring to learn.

Experience, a lantern dim yet bright,
Revealing paths both wrong and right.
But the future, a shadow we chase in vain,
Promising sunshine, yet bringing rain.

If we could use it—the things we know,
The sights we see, the seeds we sow
Perhaps tomorrow would be less blind,
And wisdom wouldn’t lag behind.
